1974 VW Camper Van : Needs throw out bearing and some body work. Motor was rebuilt and bored from 1600cc to 2000cc approx 24,000 miles ago. Not driven since 1998, kept under a carport. Motor still turns by hand. This Van has a lot of heart and has been to many Grateful Dead Shows and Gatherings. This Van has really good Karma. Needs some TLC restoration and this car will be the best time you could ever enjoy. Truly a classic. I don’t want to sell. I have been keeping it hoping I would have the money to restore it but I need the money to help my daughters. The Camper top opens straight up, not at an angle like most do and it creates a bed up top and there is a bed on the bottom that is comfortable enough for two adults to sleep very comfortably with a lot of room. I you want to buy it I hope that you will give it a good home and take care of it the way it deserves.

  1. Hello friend,

I am incredibly curious about your 1974 van. I was wondering if you could answer some of my questions. I’ll just list them, so it’s easier for you!

1.) Would the van be able to start being used daily? Or could it ever reach that point?
2.) How many miles does it have?
3.) Could you be a little bit more specific by what you mean when you say, “Needs to throw out bearing and some body work.”?
4.) Does it have the fridge, stove, and sink?
5.) Could you tell me the VIN and some of the car’s history (other than being your means of transportation to the Grateful Dead shows, which I can only imagine were super cool!!!)
6.) could you send me some photos of the dash, pop top canvas, engine compartment, undercarriage, wheel wells, metal seams, door jams, window seals, etc.

I apologize for all the questions and requests I just want this VW van to be a part of my life for as long as possible! I wouldn’t typically tell any other potential sellers the reason I want a VW, but I think you’ll enjoy it. I attend Eckerd College (Saint Petersburg), a college you may know since you are relatively close and like The Grateful Dead. But if not, it’s okay. My years at Eckerd have helped me develop my personal philosophy. When I graduate, I want to be able to live sustainably and in such a way that is consumer conscious and off the grid. I also plan to become a high school teacher in hopes to help the younger generations regain the passion in their lives! So, I’m obviously not going to be making a lot of money, so a van is the perfect living space for me. I want to live with as much freedom as I possibly can, and I think a van will help me do so. Buying a van would help me live a fulfilling life that does not force me to give up ethics or morals, and I would love it if your van, with its good karma, could help me create more good karma and spread it all over as you once did.

    Much love,
    Nick
