For Sale: 1971 Volkswagen Bay Window Bus
This is a really cool bus that has been given an amateur restoration and some nice upgrades and lots of recent work. It is priced well since it could still use a little more TLC from a caring owner as they drive and enjoy it.
It has a 1776cc engine for a little more power, which has just been tuned up, a new clutch, new CV axles, new brake hoses, cables, wheel cylinders and shoes, the front brakes are upgraded to German CSP wide-5 units, and it stops as well as any bus could, I think! The steering box is what I would call very good for a bus – not perfect, but better than most I have driven. New steering drag link. There is a new Empi trigger shifter and coupling and bushings, the shocks are very recent, and the front beam is a narrowed adjustable Wagens West beam, with new ball joints and tie rods. New shocks, all around. Brand new BRM wheels and tires, as well (also has a 15” spare).
Much of the interior has been replaced or upgraded. It has a custom rear seat arrangement with removable cushions and lots of storage underneath the large benches. Most of the rubber mats are new, front seat upholstery and door panels are almost new. All of the window seals are new, all the side windows are new, and the middle ones are really cool sliders from Just Kampers in the UK. They are a very nice upgrade for security and ventilation.
What does it need? The speedometer and tach don’t work, some of the wiring could use a little cleanup, and the stereo isn’t hooked up. The rear main seal, while being new, does leak a bit and the paint and bodywork is just OK. If that type of stuff doesn’t bother you, If you want a bus you can use and enjoy (and not pay more than $10k for) – this is it. It’s got it where it counts and is an awesomely fun bus to drive anywhere. Everyone loves it and gives thumbs up.
